Acetaminophen Trial

Purpose

The goal of this study is to monitor liver function tests of healthy adults taking the maximum daily dose of acetaminophen (also known as Tylenol®) compared to people taking an inactive placebo pill for 16 days. Depending on the results of the liver function tests at day 16 you could be in the study for up to an additional 24 days.

Detailed Description

This study requires a minimum of 10 and up to a maximum of 18 visits with a blood draw at each visit. Three of the blood draws require fasting before the visit. Some of the visits will be on weekend days.

You will be asked to:

    1. Take the study medication 4 times a day (every 4 hours) for a maximum of 40 days.

    2. You will be asked to complete a dairy of all medications and physical activity.

    3. You should avoid drinking more than 3 alcoholic beverages on any day during the study.

    4. You will be contacted by phone between all study visits.

The first visit will be longer, around an hour, due to the consenting process, but subsequent visits should only take 15 minutes.

Participants are compensated $10/day.
